A milestone I could maybe do without

Miss J was with Ada today. Before Chris left for work, Miss J suggested that Chris show her how our washer works, in case J ever needed to wash diaper covers or some other Ada-accoutrements. Prescient, that Miss J.

At the usual time, Miss J put Ada in her bed for a nap. When she heard Ada cooing in her room ninety minutes later, J quickly scooted upstairs to pick up the girl. Apparently not quickly enough for the devious Ada. When J opened the door, she saw Ada sitting in her crib, diaper off. Hands covered with poop. Sheets spread with poop. Crib railing, yes, smeared with poop.

This is the first time the girl has taken off her diaper in bed, though lately she's shown some interest in trying to get diapers off. Chris and I learned that we can't put Ada to bed without something over her diaper. J got some practice using our washing machine. Ada had a couple of minutes of e coli packed fun.

  1. my mom tells me i did the same thing right around that age. sheets, crib railing, hair - pooporama everywhere!

i think she even has (cringe) pictures.

  2. Suggestions I've heard:

    1. Put diaper on backwards.

    2. Duct tape (seriously).

  3. How much fun was THAT?! :)

When my daughter was learning to wipe herself after toileting...she had a little mishap. Long (rather yucky) story short...she required a bath!

These are the kinds of stories we can laugh about and use as blackmail for years to come!

  4. we had a double poo-splosion once -- where one of my twins took off the poo diaper and spread the love, then the other followed suit. we did the backwards diaper thing for while, then they figured that out. we did the duct tape thing too -- but getting one tiny area of duct tape on their skin made a "call family services" kind of mark, so that was short-lived. luckily, this stage doesn't last forever. so i offer "congrats" and "condolences" for hitting this milestone.

  5. Ah. What is the appropriate gift to mark such an achievement? Anti-bacterial hand-wipes?

  6. i've got some good news for you. when charlotte was just over a year old, she did the same thing, and, i kid you not, ATE some. yup, it was all over her face (ick!). luckily for us, she had her year appointment that afternoon, and i asked the pediatrician about it, worried that she might get sick from eating her own, um, shit. nope! no worries! they won't get sick from eating their own shit. other's? probably. but evidently their own is fine. /gag/

  7. Knock on wood. That's ONE thing that hasn't happened here. I think we made up for it though...

  10. Good god. I definitely hope I'm on a business trip or something if that happens. I don't wish that on my wife, but I'm cowardly enough to not wish it on myself even more.

  11. Wow! Ada is surely fast!

    Uhm...can I laugh? It's just so funny.

I had a funny experience once when I did babysitting for a neighbor. Well, Miss J and Ada quite made me remember that moment.

    Thanks...for making me laugh...uhmmm...am I alowed?

Now I feel free to laugh...

Before I was kinda scared that my laugh might offend someone ;D

BTW, my boyfriend, James, said hi...he did laugh, too!

  14. oh i am not looking forward to that day. though i have heard stories before of things like this yours takes the cake. my cousin started to put her daughters diapers on backwards in order to try to prevent further messes. i must say the sad news about that story is that she did have her clothes on to start with...

i am not looking forward to days like that.

  16. Yikes! That is quite the scene you paint. Poor Miss J learned a valuable lesson the hard way. Ada will be wearing pants to sleep in from now on.
