Cods and Potty

Yesterday Ada decided she did not need a nap. All morning we kept waiting for the crash, and hence put off a planned trip to the zoo. Our whole day was filled with "Did I see a yawn?" "Did she just rub her eyes?" Nope. Not tired and NOT napping. So, thwarted in our plans to actually do something fun, we went to Target.

Why do I always think that if something is on a store's web site that it will actually have that item in the store? Fool. And why is it that every retailer in my area only carries one piece sleepers for children 9 months and younger? Hit a year and all you get are two piece sets featuring "licensed characters." The sign above the rack actually said "licensed characters pajama sets." Thanks, but my daughter can go a bit longer without sucumbing to barbie pajamas.

Also missing in action were the sleep sacks that Target shows on its web site. I love these things, because even when Ada wiggles all night, she still keeps warm. Really, waking at 2 am because your child is cold makes you feel like a stellar parent, doesn't it? Since Ada is quickly growing out of her current sleep sack, I am on a mission to find a bigger one. This mission may end in me making one. Good thing Ada doesn't mind frankenstein-looking blankets, because my sewing skills are a bit sketchy.

The higlight of the trip was Chris's response to the section of the store labeled "Cards and Party". He glanced up and gleefully announced in his best Rhode Island accent: "I've eaten so many cods that now I got to potty!" Nothing perks up a failed shopping trip like mocking Rhode Islanders.

All that drool on her dress? A sign that a tooth actually was coming. Good thing our day care provider noticed, because Mom and Dad sure didn't.

  1. Ahh. There is nothing quite like an afternoon with a non-napping babe.

    Cods and potty! Love it!

Do you have a Babies R Us? I found a bunch of different sized sleep sacs there.

  2. no nap days sucked but thankfully they seem to have disappeared with age. i predict the same for miss. a.

i love hanna andersson pajamas. no sleep sacks but one-pieces for big kids. i know a lot of people are down on HA but i don't know why (too cutsey and expensive I suppose).

what size is she wearing? i have one sleepsack that might work but it may be too warm for summer.

  3. babies r us, or, if she still fits easily into the top part of the sleep sack, and you have a sewing machine, just cut the bottom inch or so off, then sew on some additional fabric to lengthen it. my daughter is tall for her age, but skinny, so she has outgrown the xl sleep sack. adding some fabric to the bottom did the trick. and i don't sew, either, so i must assure you that it's pretty easy. good luck!

  4. Ditto the Babies R' Us. Oh, and I can't agree more with the licensed characters. It's why we have dinasaur jammies. I'd so much rather look at a race car or a dinasaur that have my child be a walking advertisement.

On a side - my mother knows this. So what does she bring back from her last trip? A purple ruffled had with EVERY. SINGLE. PRINCESS. on it. Gee thanks. Reminds me of the tees you have to deal with.

  5. I couldn't find big sleep sacks anywhere in Houston. Then I went to a tiny west Texas podunk target and they had a million. I was tempted to buy a dozen.

  6. Do you have a Costco card, lady? Because I just hit that joint up last week for some kidlet clothing, and they restocked recently (they always have piles of Carter's stuff), and now have footy, fleecy pjs in again (for fall, I can only assume), so I snapped up a few pairs, b/c of a similar dilemma with the two-piece summer jams crapola.

    p.s. yeah! teeth!

  7. Oh, don't even get me started on finding sleepwear without licensed characters. RANT rant rant.

And skipping naps? Gets me even more worked up.

But she's adorable. Adorable makes me happy.

  9. i succumbed to the two piece sets when I realized how much easier it was to peel of pj bottoms for that middle of the night diaper change!

We have searched for the non licensed one's too..but do have Max and Ruby and dora!

  11. Yes, we rock the sleep sack here at casa nonlinear. And yes, we do have a BRU in town, but it's a shlep, more so than the Target. I need at least a week to talk myself into making the trip.

  12. The Children's Place (Lloyd Center) has nice one piece pajamas, and they are reasonably priced. Even in the summer, my girl still wears them some nights (we buy one size bigger than she'd normally wear.) Also, the Old Navy ones are good, and many of them aren't too obnoxious. The shirts at Target that bother me are the "humor" t's for kids, you know, the ones that say, "I get whatever I want," "mommy's little shopper"-- that kind of thing. Maybe I don't have a sense of humor anymore? (Or not that kind, anyway...)

  13. Ah yeah sleep sacks are great; and one piece pjs are like totally underrated. I think more adults should be wearing them!

Stinky about the branding of sleepwear; I have only run into this problem -- significantly -- over toothbrushes, so far.

  14. I'm happy to make a sleep sack when I get back next week. Just need some specs on Miss A's size. :)

  15. Carter's Outlet always has the one piece pajamas, they even go up to the big kid sizes. They stay nice and cozy in those. The only licensed character pjs I got for Cat had Angelina Ballerina on them. That is as far as I will go. The sleep sacks never worked for my kids.
