Random quote and unrelated photo of the week

Flying is for people who want to let it all hang out. Invisibility is for fearful, crouching, masturbators.

  1. In Jonathan Lethem's novel The Fortress of Solitude the protagonist finds a ring that, when he's a kid/teen, allows him to fly; when he's older he's able to use it to become invisible. There's some musing in the book about the ring giving you what you need at the time, I think.

  2. Funny, I read that book but didn't think of it at all when I heard this quote. Maybe because that character was fearful even when he was able to fly.

  3. I've always been interested in the "free dirt"/"fill dirt needed" dichotomy.

Some folks need it, some need to get rid of it. Are their needs always met, in the end?
