Love your spam!

I got a weird email today. Addressed to me by name (well, by moniker), it opens "Love your blog! Hope you will check mine out as well." It is basically spam for this woman's business (booking entertainers for and planning children's parties). Which forces me to ask: party planners for kids' birthdays? Ada is a bit young for the big kid birthday extravaganza, but really? Who does that? (Outside of the Hollywood/Hamptons rich and famous, that is.) Aren't little kid birthdays cake and ice cream, balloons and maybe games or a run through the sprinklers? Maybe a pinata? And older kids, that means bowling, skating, high tea, right? I remember one year my mom organized for a group of us to go a children's theater production. We all dressed up.

I also wonder who else out there got this spam. I can't be the only one. Somehow I doubt that this woman really loves my blog and that's why she wants me to participate on her on-line market research.

  4. I had to add that to my blog, because I was getting all those great comments, like "Great Blog, if you are interested in making lots of money check this out". I even got one of those money order scams fromt the blog.

Anyway, I agree with your thoughts on little kid birthdays. It is enough work for us to get invites out, get a cake and order a few pizzas to keep kiddos fed. When they are older we might do a zoo party, or OMSI or something like that, but for us that would be extravagant. But with the amount of money some "normal" parents are spending on their kids these days, maybe it is not that out of the question.

  5. I was thinking that with a summer birthday Ada might get in on the "camp birthday". As a pre-teen I went to sleep away camp, and the kids who had birthdays were treated to an all camp serenade, plus "skip around the room, skip around the room, we won't shut up, 'til you skip around the room" and a ride around the dining hall on a chair (like what the bride and groom get at a Jewish wedding, for those not into chair-rides). I was always a bit jealous of the summer birthday kids, though in retrospect I would probably have been mortified to have been forced to skip around the room in front of everyone.

  6. See, I'm a May b-day - and it didn't suck until college (finals week ALWAYS) cuz NO ONE wanted to celebrate.

My daughter's a July babe - hopefully she won't be a huge crabapple when she can't bring in my nasty cupcakes since her birthday is NOT in the school months.

  7. I was expressing my fear of the parties of our future this weekend. Seems another family we know has promised the next fete will include a bouncy castle. I think I would never do that.

    but will I?
